Cajon Pass

Cajon Pass is located between the San Bernardino Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California, one of the three most scenic railroad sites in US.

Cajon Pass (a.k.a. Cajon Summit) is easily accessible from Route 138 via I-15 as marked as A in the map. Hesperia at higher elevation is located in the right hand. San Bernardino at lower elevation is located in the down side. 

A freight train from Hesperia is approaching the Cajon Summit.

The freight train uses the outer track because a double-stack train heading to Hesperia is waiting on the inner track.

The first engine of the inner track is GE ES44DC #7292 (GEVO 12, 4,400hp)

Next train also comes from Hesperia pulled by 4 engines, using the center track.

The engines of the inner track keep waiting as the tank cars are running down.

Two engines are supporting the heavy freight at the back.

Then, very short freight train comes up.

Eleven engines (!) are connected and heading down to San Bernardino.

Tehachapi Loop

Tehachapi Loop is a part of the railway line between Bakersfield and Mojave in California, one of the three most scenic railroad sites in US.

Top left line comes from Bakersfield of lower elevation, and the right bottom line goes to Mojave of higher elevation.

Tehachapi Loop is National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark as well as California Historical Landmark.

The Cross at the Loop stands atop the hill in the center of the loop in memory of two employees killed in a train derailment in San Bernardino, California on May 12, 1989.

From Mojave, GE ES44DC #7579 and the three engines are going down.

 The 2nd engine is GE ES44DC, the 3rd and 4th engines are GE Dash 9-44CW.

Next BNSF train comes up from Bakersfield. All engines are Dash 9-44CW. The third engine is Norfolk Southern.
